Huawei Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design arrives with up to 2TB storage
The Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design shares key hardware with the Mate 90 Pro Max but adds a distinctive rear design and a 2TB storage option. Prices start at CNY 12,999.

Huawei has introduced the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design, a more premium-looking counterpart to the Mate 90 Pro Max. It retains that phone’s key hardware while adding a supercar-inspired rear design and a storage option that reaches 2TB. Prices start at CNY 12,999, with shipments in China expected to begin on November 11.
Design & display
The Mate 90 RS continues Huawei’s Ultimate Design line with a distinctive back available in Crimson, Pure White and Jet Black. An octagonal camera island anchors the design, with a raised central panel extending from the island’s edge into the lower half of the phone.
On the front is a 6.9-inch tandem LTPO OLED display, matching the panel type and size of the Mate 90 Pro Max. The RS also includes IP69 ingress protection and satellite connectivity.
Performance
Huawei uses the Kirin 9500 Pro chip, another component shared with the Mate 90 Pro Max. All three RS configurations have 16GB of RAM, paired with 512GB, 1TB or 2TB of storage.
Storage is one of the clearest differences between the two models: the Pro Max tops out at 1TB, while the RS offers twice that capacity in its highest-priced configuration.
Cameras
The rear camera hardware carries over from the Mate 90 Pro Max. A 50MP main camera uses a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor and a variable aperture spanning f/1.4 to f/4.0. It sits alongside a 200MP periscope camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and 4x optical zoom, plus a 40MP ultrawide.
The RS also natively supports Huawei’s Ruiying Z10 external camera module. That accessory contains its own 1-inch, 50MP RYYB sensor and covers a 24–240mm focal range. The Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition is the only other model in the Mate 90 series that supports it.
The Z10 is a separate purchase rather than part of the phone’s price. It costs CNY 5,999, or approximately $895 as listed in the report.
Battery & charging
A 6,800mAh battery powers the Mate 90 RS. Its capacity matches the battery in the Mate 90 Pro Max, continuing the shared-hardware approach across the two phones.
Price & availability
Huawei lists three Mate 90 RS configurations:
- 16GB + 512GB: CNY 12,999, approximately $1,939.
- 16GB + 1TB: CNY 14,999, approximately $2,237.
- 16GB + 2TB: CNY 18,999, approximately $2,834.
Shipments in China are expected to start on November 11. The 2TB model sits at the top of the range, while all three versions retain the same 16GB RAM allocation.
