Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Collector's Edition supports Ruiying Z10 camera

Huawei has launched the Mate 90 Pro Max series alongside the XMAGE-powered Ruiying Z10 modular camera. The Mate 90 Pro Max Collector's Edition is one of two supported phones, with Huawei pitching the external imaging system as an alternative to a multi-lens DSLR setup.

What was launched?

Richard Yu, Huawei's Executive Director and Consumer Business Group Chairman, introduced the company's self-developed external camera lens for the Mate 90 Pro Max models. The accessory is called the Ruiying Z10 Modular Camera and combines an external lens arrangement with its own sensors.

Compatibility is limited to two models: the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector's Edition and the Mate 90 RS Ultimate.

Cameras

Huawei describes the Ruiying Z10 as more than a conventional teleconverter: a developed imaging system with its own advanced sensors.

During the unveiling, Yu said the system could surpass the camera capabilities of an SLR or DSLR setup. Huawei specifically highlighted dynamic and clear macrophotography in making that comparison.

Yu said: “I also bought a DSLR camera myself, which requires at least four lenses. Now, the Huawei Ruiying Z10 modular camera can handle everything with just one camera.”

The Ruiying Z10 optical setup contains 19 lenses arranged in six groups. Huawei lists three ultra-low dispersion lenses with a Vd greater than 90 and five low dispersion lenses with a Vd greater than 80. The system also includes nine aspherical lenses with submicron precision.

Price & availability

The Ruiying Z10 imaging kit costs 5,999 yuan when purchased separately. That figure is the accessory's price, rather than the price of the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector's Edition. Huawei lists support for the Collector's Edition and Mate 90 RS Ultimate only.
