Huawei’s Mate 90 Pro is now available in China, bringing a dual-layer OLED display, Kirin 9035 processor and a larger 6,600mAh battery. The new slab flagship starts at CNY 7,000 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version.

Design & display

The Mate 90 Pro has a 6.75-inch LTPO OLED display with 1280p+ resolution and a 1–120Hz refresh rate. Its dual-layer panel reaches a stated peak brightness of 12,000 nits. The screen also works when wet, allowing use in the rain.

Third-generation Kunlun glass protects the front, while a metal frame sits between it and a nylon-fiber rear panel. The phone carries an IP68 rating for submersion down to 6m, alongside IP69K protection against hot-water jets.

Color options are Emerald Green, Amber Orange, Crystal White and Obsidian Black. Huawei has retained the triple punch-hole layout for the selfie camera and 3D depth-sensing hardware.

Performance

The Kirin 9035 powers the Mate 90 Pro. Huawei says it is 20% faster than the chip in the previous Pro model. Its GPU supports hardware ray tracing, with a stated rendering rate of 31 million rays per second.

Configurations offer 12GB or 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. There is no memory card slot. The phone includes a dual-SIM slot and an eSIM, while Beidou Satellite Messaging supports sending and receiving messages and photos.

Cameras

The rear camera setup is largely carried over from the Mate 80 Pro. A 50MP RYYB main camera combines optical image stabilization with a switchable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture. It sits alongside a 40MP RYYB ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a separate color sensor.

The 50MP RYYB telephoto camera offers 4x optical magnification, OIS and an f/2.1 aperture. It also switches into a macro mode for close-ups from 5cm away. On the front, the 13MP selfie camera has an f/2.0 autofocus lens.

Battery & charging

Battery capacity rises from the previous Pro’s 5,750mAh to 6,600mAh. Huawei claims up to 41 hours of video playback on one charge.

The phone supports 100W wired SuperCharge and 50W wireless SuperCharge. Wireless charging is lower than the Mate 80 Pro’s 80W rating. Reverse charging is available both wirelessly and over a cable, with wired reverse charging rated at 18W.

Software

The Mate 90 Pro launches with Harmony OS 7. It supports remote sharing of photos, videos and other large files, plus tap-to-share for nearby transfers. The phone detects whether it is being held in the left or right hand and places incoming-call answer and reject buttons on the right side.

Price & availability

The Mate 90 Pro is on sale through Vmall in China. Pricing is CNY 7,000 for 12GB/256GB, CNY 8,000 for 12GB/512GB, CNY 8,500 for 16GB/512GB and CNY 10,000 for 16GB/1TB.

The base configuration costs CNY 1,000 more than the equivalent Mate 80 Pro did last year.
